Job Summary

The Business Analyst provides proactive analysis and support in analyzing health care and business data from conceptualization through the presentation of data. Furthermore, the Business Analyst plays a pivotal part in ongoing business development, education and training for department systems end-users and staff, and supporting the optimal utilization of both data and information technology systems at an enterprise level.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Assists in the management, development, and support of complex data and information systems maintained by the department.

  2. Generates reports to comply with department needs and data inquiry, providing analysis to determine areas of potential opportunity. Identifies trends and business insights and makes recommendations for interventions at the organization, practice and patient levels.

  3. Works strategically to gather and understand the details necessary to fulfill data requests and needs. Ensures timely delivery of periodic and ad hoc reporting to senior leadership.

  4. Effectively communicates information to maximize readability, comprehension, and understanding through both written and verbal reports and presentations. Demonstrates ability to reduce analyses and concepts to concise messaging appropriate for given audiences.

  5. Utilizes data visualization methods, techniques, and tools to develop appropriate data visualizations tailored to the needs of a specific audience, task, and data.

  6. Coordinates with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain various dashboards and reports. Serves as a resource for analysis methods, report content, and report design as needed.

  7. Provides ongoing support in the areas of data collection, validation and usage.

  8. Maintains an understanding of the shifting healthcare landscape and strategic goals of the organization.

  9. Combines data from multiple sources and transforms, cleanses, and re-codes it to make the data informative and usable in analysis.

  10. Maintains knowledge of industry-leading software packages and coding languages for data management and analytics.

  11. Develops and maintains expertise in practice areas through review of research and literature.

  12. Executes complex tasks and projects as a project lead or project team member. Demonstrates knowledge of project life-cycle management, Agile and Lean development, and Six Sigma/Process Improvement.

Education/Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in data management and/or data analysis; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  2. Experience with healthcare clinical, financial, and operational datasets preferred.

Required Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated understanding of the complex and related interdependencies between enterprise systems and internal processes.

  2. Ability to conduct data linkage between multiple data sources ensuring data cohesiveness.

  3. Critical thinking and analytical skills, with strong understanding of regression, forecasting, and factor analysis.

  4. Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.

  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  6. Understanding of data structures and concepts.

  7. Ability to think and work both independently and as a team member.

  8. Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.

  9. Self-driven personality; ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities and personalities simultaneously.

  10. Must be able to operate independently with clients.

  11. Proficiency or experience using multiple business intelligence and analytical tools such as, but not limited to: SQL Server, SSRS, Crystal Reports, Tableau, QlikView, MS Excel, Power Pivot, Power Query, and PowerBI.

  12. Excellent leadership, relationship-building, organizational, and decision-making skills

Working conditions

This position will be in an office setting during normal office hours with occasional evening or after hours work. Frequent local travel and interaction with various practices should be expected.

Physical requirements

This position may require lifting of up to 25 lbs. Long distance walking should be expected when visiting hospitals or larger practices/clinics.
